WRITE ERROR (July 13, 2011 10:58PM) terrance
What does this mean?

The drive reported an error:
Sense Key= MEDIUM ERROR
Sense Code = 0x0C
WRITE ERROR

In my experience a Sense Key error means that your disk has reached the end of it's life and is on life support. If at all possible try to get as much of your vital stuff copied over to another drive. When a disk gets to this stage the use of some kind of disk utility to try to repair usually finishes it off completely.

If however you are talking about an optical disk burning issue then that's another matter. Can you be more explanatory.

Best wishes.

I was using Toast to burn a DVD via an external disk burner. Half way through the burn, the aforementioned error message appeared.

Ahh.. "Medium" is referring to the disk. In the case of a HD it means that there are bad blocks in the sector it's trying to write to. With optical disks it means much the same, in other words it can't write to the disk because it's faulty, maybe a bad batch. Or the burner itself is faulty. Also, if you are using a burner which supports higher burning speeds than your disk media it will probably overrun the disk. Use quality disks such as Verbatum and burn at a lower speed and see if that helps.

Best wishes.
