Mac mini (October 13, 2014 02:48PM) video1
Hi Ken,
I would like to find out if Final Cut Pro X will run on a Mac mini. Please let me know. I'm on a tight budget and could only afford a Mac mini.

Thanks.

Checking into it. I do know that legacy FCP will run on a Mac Mini.

I have talked to several people and they all say that they can see no reason why you can't run FCP X on a Mac Mini. They have been running Legacy FCP on Mac Minis for years, though I could not find anyone who is running X on the Mac Mini now.

Get a minimum of 8 gigs, 16 would be better. There are several processor options as well. It is a cool device with HDMI and FW 800 ports.

Just to be sure, call Apple and ask about FCP X on the Mac mini.

On the attached screenshot you can see 2K ProRes 4444 files from an Arri Alexa in FCP X on a minimum specced 2011 i5 Mini.

This one only has 8 GB RAM and a shared Intel 512 MB HD 3000 graphics unit. I agree with Ken more RAM would be better, and the more recent models also have much better graphics cards. A friend of mine does 6-camera 1080p multi cams on a fully specced new Mini. So yes, the Mini certainly is a viable option for running FCP X. The new models run FCP X even better than some old MacPro towers.

Best wishes,

Ronny
