It could be a compatibility issue. Disk burn speeds have increased year on year leaving older players behind, so if you burned at max the disk might play on your computer but not play in an older domestic player. Try setting your burn speed manually to something like X4.

XGTV thanks for your reply.

to try something different, I made a disk image from DVD Studio Pro 4,
then tried burning through DISK UTILITY at only 4x
ERROR- BAD DISK
Next I tried opening the Disk image with "DVD PLAYER" and it said "Media type is not supported"
what could be causing this?

when I put the DVD back in the computer, I see there is one folder on the dvd labeled HVDVD_TS
inside that folder there are 9 executable files, BUP, IFO and EVO
does that look right?

Ahh. There's your problem. HD-DVD is a defunct format, it lost out to Sony's Blu-Ray format and nothing will play it. You will have to make a standard SD DVD unless you are equipped to make Blu-Ray disks. :o(

so how do we tell DVD Studio Pro to make an SD Disk? Format settings seem to say SD

when I open "Build & Format" window its set to red laser, single, number of sides ONE, 12cm

From the DVDSP menu bar at the top choose preferences.
In the next window choose "Project"
From there choose "DVD standard" and from the drop down menu choose SD DVD.
Choose NTSC or Pal then hit the apply button.

Send good news here later. ;o)

XGTV - this is exactly how it was set up.
Project: DVD Standard - SD DVD
Video standard - NTSC

I have no Idea. If your settings are correct then I've never heard of this. What O.S. are you using?

OS 10.68

...more to this story...

I tried all three of the "bad disks" back in the computer again. TWO play on the computer's dvd player. The 3rd (first one I tried to burn) will not mount and ejects itself without explanation.

2) using the finder window to view the build folder, there IS a folder that is "VIDEO_TS" (and AUDIO_TS)

so why were THEY not burned? How did the output become "HVDVD_TS"?

Sounds like your system needs a good rodding, as they say.
