Re: Dragging Filter/Effects

Woah - over a year trying to assimilate FCPX and
I still cannot drag filters across the timeline to the
desired (targeted) clip in the timeline. I end up in
timeline hell pulling audio and video clips all over
the timeline and causing havoc with everything...

Still only 30% on this program. Lightworks, ilk and
Premiere while being non-native still seem to be
much more usable. Anyone else have this dragging
problem?

I don't have any problem dragging, but you can highlight the clip you want the effect on and then just double-click on the filter or effect.

No offense, but if you have been trying FCP X over a year and you don't know how to put a filter onto a clip, maybe it's time to get some basic training (-:

As Joe says: just double-click on a filter or effect to add it to a selected clip.
If you want to add a filter to multiple clips at once: group-select the clips and double-click the filter or effect.
If you want to copy filters or corrections from one clip onto one or more other clips: use Paste Attributes (SHIFT+CMD+V) to paste selected filters and corrections, or use Paste Effects (OPT+CMD+V) to paste all filters and corrections at once.
Much faster than dragging things across a timeline.

How do you remove an effect or swap one with another?

Select the clip with the filter and then, in the Inspector > Video tab, you will see the filter listed, select it and hit the delete key.
