From where did you import the file? If this file was on a camera, a camera card, an external drive or a USB stick and you have imported the file without copying it into your Library the clip will go offline when you disconnect the camera, the card, the external drive or the USB stick. Same thing if the file is on your desktop, you import it without copying it into the Library and then you put the file from the desktop in the trash.

If this is the case you should reconnect the device from where you have imported the clip, relink or re-import the missing file and make sure to copy the imported clip into your Library.

Does it mean you don’t have the whole card structure to work with or Final Cut Pro can’t recognize your AVCHD footage from your camcorder? If you have to, converting MTS to ProRes for importing to Final Cut Pro is a feasible way. I have look at various convertors but tricky to choose which one top go for. After multiple testing, the most suitable one- Brorsoft MTS Converter for Mac has come out.
