Which ProRes Best for Canon DSLR footage (May 02, 2015 03:51AM) UptownVideo
Which ProRes format would be best to convert my Canon 5D and 70D footage to for editing in FCP Studio 7. Thanks.

ProRes 422 or 422 HQ if you plan on doing heavy layering or graphics.

Thanks for the info...Is there any advantage to one format over the other. I will be exporting to DVD Studio Pro at some point when the editing is finished..Thanks again....

422 HQ will create larger files and is beneficial for creating multi-layered effects, heavy compositing or multiple generations of converted video. Other ProRes 422 is fine.

I use 422 (HQ) for everything including DSLR footage. If I need transparency (like for a graphics layer with an alpha channel) I'll use 4444. Not sure what the advantage to 4444XQ is.

Thanks for the info to everyone. Very helpful from all. I still seem to have trouble getting my Canon DSLR footage into FCP Studio 7. FCP doesn't recognize it.

You need to get the plugin from the Canon website. See attachment.

Thanks for the info. I tried finding the download for the plugin on the Canon site, I went under drivers and software tab, but don't seem to be able to locate it for my 5D MK III as there's nothing listed for the FCP plugin. Would you have a link...Thanks.
