Re: compress video

compress video (May 13, 2015 05:54AM) Angy
I have a video file that is 5.16 GB and I am trying to compress it so it fits on a 4 Gb USB drive. as a .mov file. I am using final cut X and compressor 4.1.3 I remember the older version of compressor had actual settings that I could adjust. With the newer version I don't see that I have any options other than using the pre selected settings.

How can I compress this file ?

If your purpose is to transport the file then you need a bigger USB stick. However, if it's for client viewing on a TV then you can use Mpeg Streamclip to compress to Mpeg4, then it will fit easily.

Why not try Handbrake?

You can tweak any preset right inside Compressor.

For MP4 choose the Broadband High setting under the "HTTP" category.
Drop the setting onto your video and click the Video tab.
Here you can fine-tune any settings.
Set Data Rate to Custom and drag the data rate slider until you see the Estimated File Size (top window of the inspector) matches the target file size you require.
Also don't forget to set the Audio data rate to 128 kbps and 48 or 44.1 KHz.

Best wishes,

Ronny
