Can't see effects of filter?

Can't see effects of filter? (May 18, 2015 10:41PM) jrosson
Folks -
We are just starting to work with Final Cut X.
We had occasion to use the sharpen filter on a few shots from our Canon.
Though they seem to have worked in the QuickTime movie that we output, they don't seem to 'display' i.e. 'show their effects', in the timeline on playback.
We have noticed however, that when we stop play, the picture looks more crisp.
Is there some way to view the filter effects in real-time play back?
Thank you,
JR

It sounds like you need to render them. Have you tried that?

Hi JR,

It looks like you have set your playback options in the Viewer to "Better Performance". This mode only displays full quality when the playhead stops on a frame. And Phil is correct: when you render the effect you will be able to view the effect in full quality in realtime.

Best wishes,

Ronny

Phil, Ronnie - thanks for the quick reply- and the help.
Not in front of the machine, but will check and post back.

Ronny/Phil -- that was indeed the issue.

DR (Dennis, the editor) said:
'That fixed it. I googled this online when initially starting out, but went to Final Cut Pro>Preferences>Playback to toggle the Quality setting. It's not there. You need to click the little icon on the top right of the viewer.'

Always the little things.

Thanks gentlemen,
JR
