Most people running FCP7 work with a legacy OS partition because FCP7 cannot take any advantage of the newer OSes anyway.

But if FCP7 world fine with 10.10.2 for you it should work with 10.10.3 as well because the latest OS update does not have any fundamental changes in it that would stop FCP7 from working. So first I would try to delete the FCP7 preferences and try launching FCP again.

Best wishes,

Ronny

Motion 5 has never been compatible with FCP7. This message seems new in this Yosemite update, but I cannot tell why because I don't have FCP7 on any computer anymore. It is better to install Motion 4 on the FCP7 partition because FCP7 and Motion 4 can use "send to Motion". This does not work with Motion 5.

Best wishes,

Ronny

Hmm...

Are you saying that the mere existence of Motion 5 on the same drive which is running Yosemite 10.10.3 will prevent
FCP 7 from opening even they are used independently of each other?

I'm running FCP X and still use FCP 7 to revise old projects and would like to continue to do so.

Thanks,
Phil

And your running 10.10.3? When Motion 5 is installed, are any other plug-ins or parts of it installed in Pro Apps which would have to be uninstalled? Is there an "uninstall" feature?

FCP7 works fine in 10.10.3. Well mostly. Importing via Log and Transfer can be a little wonky sometimes. But everything runs. Also, why would you compress something before you trash it? You'll still have to trash the original file anyway. Compressing is not a solution which will help anything here. Maybe go and uncompress all of the things that you have compressed and things will run again

Mitchell.

Did this problem occur when you upgraded to 10.10.3 or after you installed Motion 5?

Trying to run FCS3 on an operating system newer than itself makes as much sense as sawing an inch off one table leg. It likes being in familiar surroundings.

Joe,

Are you running FCP7 and Motion 5 on the same 10.10.3 system?

Ken,

For some reason, your system made me duplicate my previous message so I had to write this in order to overwrite the duplicated message.
