What Export Settings Are Best for 1080i FCP 7

What Export Settings Are Best for 1080i FCP 7 (July 26, 2015 03:19AM) UptownVideo
I am going to export a sequence from FCP 7 for iDVD....(It's a 1hr and 40min. long video) and it was shot in 1080i 16X9 aspect. What would be the best export settings to use in FCP 7 to use for iDVD? Thanks as always...

Export a QT movie, make it self contained, current settings.

Ken...Just so I'm clear (to export for iDVD). You're saying to do the steps you outlined to export directly from FCP 7 and not using Compressor. Is that correct? Thanks again...

Phil,

Correct. iDVD does it's own compression. As I recall, it will not accept a MPEG-2 and AC3 files.

Ken...sorry one more FCP 7 question...I have pasted 3 edited Sequences into a new 4th sequence w/chapter markers for export). The sequence is in Pro Res (Not HQ). Can I uncheck the "Make it self contained" box when exporting for iDVD as everything will be done on the one computer on the internal drive (of my iMac i7). (is there's better quailty using "make self contained" (over a reference file)...or no benefit in this case being self contained). Thanks..

Hi Phil,

I think that 'self contained' QTs are more stable but you can un check 'make self contained' if everything is on the one Mac. Be sure that everything is fully rendered.

Thanks Ken....I'll try unchecked first...iDVD says it will take approx. 7hrs and 30min. to encode/render, so I hope that's correct for a 1hr 25min. video...The program seems a little sluggish (not sure why) when I was editing chapters, maybe that's why it will take so long to encode...etc...
