Clean your camera lens (August 07, 2015 09:06AM) David
I usually clean my camera lens often, especially for "important" things. Because I've had no issues on the last two projects, I didn't think anything about not cleaning them for the wedding video I was about to do -- just a quick visual and it looks good.
It was an outside wedding, camera angling into the setting sun. NOW I know to clean it every time. Looks like someone sneezed on it.
Learned my lesson. Learn from my mistake.

Be sure to use a soft lens tissue so as not to scratch.

I think it's best to use sandpaper to scrub any dirt or flecks out of there. It's the only way to be sure. Also no matter how clean your lens is try not to point it in the direction of the sun as it will always reveal flaws.

Really?
What grade of sandpaper, doesn't that create more scratches?

uh... Alexander... that's a joke.
BTW, I once thought I had a small piece of dirt or something on my still camera lens. I tried unsuccessfully to clean it, but nothing worked. I thought I must have chipped it somehow. Photographer friend suggested rubbing a small amount of gel toothpaste on it. WALAA!! Gone in a second.

toothpaste is abrasive, like cutting compound for faded auto paint.
