Compressing 4k footage for FCP (August 09, 2015 08:49AM) Rogue2x
Hi,

Im working for the first time with 4k footage and finding it very slow and choppy audio on my mac...so i decided to convert it to 1080i so it will work without any issues in FCP7.

Could anyone tell me what the best settings are to compress this footage for ease of use in FCP7? Im not worried about losing a bit of quality as the final product will be broadcast online anyhow.

Thanks for any info.

4K will not work well inside FCP7. You should convert the footage to ProRes 422. You won't lose any quality by doing this.

Best wishes,

Use compressor and as Ronny said use the ProRes 422 preset.

My daughter just got a Gopro hero and I was curious to see what 2k + footage looked like, worrying in advance about the codec etc and lo and behold it's nothing unusual at all, h264/mp4s.So straight to pro res and into FCP 7. Eezy peezy. Can you tell me Rogue what codec the raw 4k footage is ?
