Re: Special Effect

I am shooting a wedding this Saturday and the bride has asked me if I can create a special effect with sparklers. I have seen this effect in still photography, but do not know how I can create it on video. She wants the bright end of the sparkler to spell out initials....so the letters would remain on the video after they are "painted" by the motion of the sparklers in mid air. I am shooting with a Sony HD Camera and editing on FCP 10.0.9 on a 2013 iMac with plenty of memory. If the effect is possible given these parameters, how specifically would I shoot this to create the effect? If you can refer me to a website for specific information, that would also be great. Thanks!

If you have LiveType there is at least one effect that will create letters while sparkling. I'm not at my FCP now but check it out, it might be what you need.

I'm still using FCP 6 but I know that in 6 LiveType will do what 73 wants and you can change different attributes to suit your needs. Tom
