Corrupted clips in timeline (October 29, 2015 03:20PM) GUSSS
Ken,
After multiple trims and substitutions in a 6 minute timeline with all media in ProRes 422 (from XDCAM and AVCHD) some clips play with offset video, with jumps in the video stream and fragments of clips which do not appear in the current timeline. The time line and timecode displays show the video and audio to be in sync! This can be fixed by replacing the affected video but it is time consuming and this should not be happening. The sequence in this instance has been duplicated 5 times. Earlier dupes do not show this problem so it looks like the duplication process is faulty. It has been happening over the last year or two with different OSs, now using Mavericks. I've tried trashing prefs a number of times and this improves some shots but others still play back with skips, some dissolves play okay others don't, re-rendering doesn't fix this but copying and pasting sequences from earlier duped sequences does! This phenomenon doesn't happen till the timeline has accumulated a critical number of changes...
Thanks in advance for any insights Ken.

Hi Gusss
You don't list the specs on your machine other than you are using Mavericks. What version of FCP 7 or X, model computer, ram, and video card.
I'm guessing, but it sounds like you maybe running into a resources issue either with RAM or the video card. Have you checked Activity Monitor? Do you have a lot of Page Swaps? Watch the various usage indicators and see if you are maxing out somewhere.
Quit any other apps.
What exactly do you mean by "The sequence in this instance has been duplicated 5 times." Are you running 5 clips concurrently, or do you mean you keep duplicating something and placing in timeline. Sequences are a FCP7 term.
Have you tried to create Proxies and using those to edit? ProRes422 can be very large files.
What about audio and effects?
Have you tried to edit in a new user account? Does it create the same problems?

Hope this helps, Greg
