Merging 2 backgrounds in X

Merging 2 backgrounds in X (November 05, 2015 01:38AM) jrosson
Ken, Folks,

We recently shot four interviews outdoors with a leafy green background; two of the subjects situated screen left and looking screen right, two screen right, looking screen left. Worked well.

The first interview, because of the sunlight, has a darker (less leafy green) background than the others. We're trying to merge the brighter leafy green area from the third interview to make all the interview backgrounds uniform.

We cropped the interview subject from the third interview (the crop runs roughly right thru the middle of the screen top to bottom) and placed that nice leafy background above the unwanted darker background. All good so far.

But we've not found the way to disguise the vertical edit, or merge and soften the edge.

Has anybody working X found the way to do this?

Thank you,
JR

Hi JR,

Don't use Crop to do this, use the Draw Mask filter in the FCP X Effects > Masks category. This allows you to draw a custom linear or bezier mask on a clip that can be softened as much as you want:

Best wishes,

Ronny
