Capturing standard DV footage - syncing issues

In the past when I used to capture VHS material for transfer to DVD, I always had syncing problems. I ended up using iMovie... capturing as DV Stream and had no problems. I would bring these into FCP7 and edit, and send to compressor to create DVD files.

I have noticed when doing some earlier standard mini DV tape transfers that I have the same problem with audio not syncing on long clips when using "capture Now" There's a checkmark for sync audio to video present under user ops. I have that checked.

Any suggestions? The Mini DV tapes don't have a complete TC, lots of shut off.... new recording with break in TC. This is just a home movie transfer for a client.
