Duplicating project as snapshot (February 24, 2016 01:22PM) Joe Redifer
So what's the difference between Duplicating a Project and Duplicating Project as a Snapshot? Just that the date and time are appended to the name of one and not the other?

Joe,

Lets say that you have "Project A" and in it you have either compound or multicam clips. You then Duplicate "Project A" and name it "Project B". If you make a change to the compound or multicam clip in "Project A", those changes will be reflected in "Project B".

If you Duplicate as Snapshot, make a change to a multicam or compound clip, that change will NOT be reflected in the other version. Snapshot is like a self-contained backup version.

OK, Ken, my question is: what if you make a change in Project B (the duplicate)? Will that change be reflected back in Project B (the original)? In other words, are they co-dependent on each other?

Thanks,
Phil

Interesting. Good to know. Thanks!

How you might use each:

Duplicate as Snapshot will allow you to go back through time through edit history.

Duplicate (not as Snapshot) if you're doing multiple version of the same thing and if you decide to change a graphic and want it to ripple through the other versions so they all match. This does mean putting in thought into how you use Compound clips so you can change one aspect without changing others.
