Re: Upgrading OSX

Upgrading OSX (May 05, 2016 06:13AM) benvideo
Hi Ken and Friends,

I admit I'm a bit of a dinosaur still running FCP 5.1.4 but I'm not doing a lot of editing these days and for the work I am doing this version works fine. My Mac is on OS 10.6.8 and my browsers are all out of date so I'd like to upgrade the OS but do not want to risk losing my FCP.

So the question is: to which OS X can I update without losing the ability to run FCP 5.1.4?

Thanks,

Ben Bryant NYC

You may be able to update just the browsers, or load another drive with a later OS and FCP5.1.4 and see if it still runs.
You appear to have the last OS that Apple delivered on disc i.e. Snow Leopard. Others here may know the last compatible combination. I Know FCP7 works on Yosemite.

Cheers

If FCP 7 runs on Yosemite then mine should, too. I think Rosetta is the key. I was gonna try your "other drive" idea but I couldn't find the next OS up from the one I have (Snow Leopard).

Thanx, Alexander,

Thanks Greg,

I'm on a 17" MacBookPro and will download and install El Capitan on my clone drive and see what happens.
