Unspoken feature relating to DVD authoring (October 27, 2016 10:52AM) Craig Seeman
Unspoken feature relating to DVD authoring.
I know the lack of DVD authoring has been a big complaint. I'm now hearing that they've snuck back some authoring feature in Compressor and Motion. I haven't checked them out first hand but I'd want to throw that out there since people have been grousing about that loss for years.

The new features are all great and stuff. I'm mid-project so I won't be updating. I also need to move to El Capitan first (no Sierra for now). I'm curious about the bugs that have been fixed. Anyone notice any fixes (especially in relation to keyframes)?

Just a precautionary tip.
If you update to FCPX10.3 all projects and snapshots will be updated/converted with Date Time Stamps to the time that you first launch 10.3 or import a project. This means if you depend on the Date Time Stamp to define different versions with the same name, they will now all have the same Date and Time. Given that the default for Snapshots is only to append Time Stamp and has the same default Name, there is no way of knowing when any given Snapshot was taken if converted to 10.3 from earlier versions.

This is made even worse because when you first launch 10.3, FCPX will not remember what Project or Snapshot you had last been working on. The only way to find what snapshot you were on is to open each one till you find your last changes. Best practice here is to make sure you rename any important Snapshots in 10.2.X prior to opening in 10.3.

Haven't tried it yet, but another possible work around is make a duplicate in the Finder in old version backups and open that by double clicking (I have not tried/tested this method, just suggestion). I found in Finder>Movies>FinalCutBackUps that the old version is still showing proper Date Created/Date Modified for the BU files, so speculating you can open from here to Timeline.
If someone tries this, please post back.

Hope this helps, Greg

Sounds a bit kinky. I'm gonna wait a bit before updating. FCP X is working fine for me now.

I went ahead and installed Sierra on a backup drive and put FCPX 10.3 on there just to mess around with and see how I like it. Still no scaling keyframes that allow ease in/out which makes me even wonder if Apple even has the ability to program such things. They may not be smart enough. Movement has ease in/out, why not scaling? Rotation also has ease in/out but it cannot be disabled. So much is backwards with the transform controls and I fear that Apple just doesn't have the intellect to figure out how to do it right. They must have had smarter people working there back when FCP was made because all of the transform controls int hat version allow the enabling/disabling of ease in/out. They did fix the bugs with the audio keyframing, however. Key frames now appear where your playhead is without first bumping it with the arrow keys.

Mark Spencer of Ripple Training mentioned this possible problem with audio that might occur when opening and updating existing projects in 10.3. (see attachment)

Has anyone experienced this?
