FCP 7 graphic sizes (October 02, 2017 07:52AM) Margo
I am finishing up a DVD for a client. I'll be using graphics produced in Photo Shop by a designer. The question is what do I ask for in terms of size (the edit is formatted in 1920X1080), resolution and DPI?

If anyone can assist I would appreciate it. I'm asking for it in png - but maybe it should be in pct. I will be creating motion to bring the graphics into the sequence. I'm editing in FCP7.

Thank you as usual,

Margo

DVDs are standard definition: 640x480 square pixels for 4:3 aspect ratio or 854x480 for 16:9 aspect ratio. Personally, I use uncompressed TIF, PSD or PNG for images.

If you want to make a playable HD disc (1920x1080) you'll need to create a Blu-ray disc.

Thank you both. Very, very helpful. Margo

If your timeline is 1920 x 1080 just have them make it a similar size. Don't worry about DPI and all that nonsense, that's more for print graphics. Make sure they create it in RGB as well, not CMYK. PNG is great. Don't use PCT I don't think FCP7 even recognizes that any more. Maybe if you're using OS 9. High quality JPEGs also work well especially since it's all gonna be destroyed when converted to DVD anyway. :P

EDIT: DVDs are always 720x480. Widescreen (16:9) DVDs are just anamorphic with the picture squeezed into the 720x480 area and then unsqueezed by the TV set.
