Video Capture & Scratch Disk solution for Mac Pro (Late 2013) / Final Cut Pro X (March 26, 2021 11:21PM) johnoshea02
Hi, i currently have a Mac Pro (Late 2013) with the following configuration:

Processor 3.0GHz 8-core with 25MB of L3 cache
Memory 64 GB 1866 NHz DDR3
Graphics AMD FirePro D700 6 GB
Storage 1 TB Macintosh HD

macOS Big Sur Version 11.2.3
Display Apple Thunderbolt Display 27-inch (2560 x 1440)

And i wanted to know what would be the best solution for capturing & ingesting Audio Visual Clips from VHS Tapes & DVD PAL (Blackmagic PAL – 10 Bit Uncompressed) as well as import CD Tracks into my prospective Final Cut Pro X Project.

At present i currently intend to use the following Video Playback Devices:

Sony DVP-NS76H
Sony SLV-SE820 VHS Player (Gold Plated Scart Connectors)

At present i currently intend to use these following Video Capture devices:

Blackmagic Ultrastudio 3D (Thunderbolt)
Canopus ADVC300 (Advanced Digital Video Converter)
elgato video capture (Capture analog video for your Mac, PC, iPad and iPhone

Other Options:

Blackmagic UltraStudio 4K Extreme 3
Blackmagic UltraStudio 4K Mini
Blackmagic UltraStudio HD Mini

The aim of my Final Cut X Project is to create Mashup (video), Music Video, Silent Movie, Short Films, Mashup (music) derived from VHS Tapes & DVD PAL, CD Tracks (Vinyl Records) sources.
Audio Onlly Soundtracks derived from Soundbites and CD Track samples to put on ipod shuffle.

Is there any other way i can go about capturing & ingesting Audio Visual Clips from VHS Tapes & DVD PAL (Blackmagic PAL – 10 Bit Uncompressed) as well as import CD Tracks into my prospective
Final Cut Pro X Project at the optimum standard? Would it serve me best to upgrade my Mac Pro (Late 2013) Grapics card if necessary? Would i need to think about upgrading my present Video Capture device (Blackmagic Ultrastudio 3D -Thunderbolt) to achieve this goal?

Further to this would you be able to recommend a ideal make & model Scratch Disk & Storage Device for my prospective Final Cut Pro X Project.

At present i currently intend to use the following External Hard Drives as a scratch & storage disk:

Lacie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt 2 1TB (Read/Write Speed Up to 1375 MB/s, Up to 1180 MB/s)
SanDisk Extreme PRO® Portable SSD V2 2 TB SDSSDE81-2T00-G25 (Store CD Tracks) (Read/Write Speed Up to 2,000 MB/s, Up to 2,000 MB/s)

Other Options:

LaCie Dock SSD PRO 4TB Desktop External Solid State Drive in Black (Read/Write Speed Up to 2,800 MB/s, Up to 2,100 MB/s)

Taking into consideration i will be using Multi-Effects & Transitions & Keyframing to these Master Cips & Sub Clips etc.

Kind Regards
