Crashing while capturing HDV

I just upgraded my OS to Leopard. Now whenever I try to open capture mode in FCP 5.0.4 to capture HDV footage, FCP crashes. I am using Capture Preset: HDV & Device Control Preset: HDV Firewire.
I have also tried to capture the footage with iMovie HD & HDVxDV. Neither of those work either.
Anyone else have a similar problem?
BTW, everything seems to work fine capturing DV NTSC footage.
What type of Mac do you have and what are the system specs? What hard drive are you capturing to and how is it formatted?

I have a PowerPC dual 2GHz G5 with 2.5 gigs of RAM.
Capturing to a Lacie firewire drive (formatted Mac OS Extended).
Thanks,

I wonder if there is a conflict between Leopard and FCP 5.0.4 (and/or QT).
What version of QT are you running?
Did you Repair Permissions in Disk Utility?
The problem is that I'm on FCP 6.0.3 and I don't know what is included in your FCP 5.0.4 Easy setups.
Can you try using Easy setup and select either Apple Intermediate Codec or HDV ProRes, then open a new project and try?

Hi Ken,
I am running QT 7.5 & yes I have repaired permissions.
I tried Apple Intermediate Codec, which worked! It just starts digitizing, but it doesn't launch the capture tool. I have never used that codec before, it that how it always works?
Thanks!
Peter.

5.0.4 and 7.5? At the very least I'd system update to 5.1.4

What do you mean by "At the very least I'd system update to 5.1.4?"
Thanks!

I was having a couple of similar problems with my Mac G5: FCP crashing (occasionally, randomly) during HDV capture and Compressor crashing during HDV to MP2 compression.
Then, 2 months ago, I bought a new Mac Pro.
(TOUCHING WOOD AS I TYPE THIS) Since then, not a crash of any sort, despite intensive HDV capture and compressor activity.
Two possible conclusions:
1. Apple is now testing it's FCS suite mainly on Intel Macs so the G5's are more likely to have problems, or
2. A new computer (new OS install, new FCS install) is in a cleaner state and less prone to "conflict" problems.
Maybe you need to go new Mac shopping or do a complete "format and rebuild" of your existing Mac...
Regards
Peter
