Compressor Misbehaving

Help! Every time I try to launch Compressor -- it instantly crashes. I've reinstalled it to no avail. Any suggestions would be helpful.

running Tiger OS 10.4.11
FCP ver 5.1.4
Compressor ver 2.3
I know this is an old set-up -- but believe it or not I can crunch HD video and burn a DVD. I just don't have the options Compressor can give me.
