Recording Telephone Interviews

Hi-
I'm trying to get the best recording possible from the telephone (which I realize cannot ever be very good.) I have a gadget from radio shack that plugs directly into a phone jack and then into a camera through mini-jack. The recordings are very clear but tinny. There are other more expensive gadgets out there but I don't know if they're worth it. Anyone have experience with this?
