NTSC -> PAL conversion query

NTSC -> PAL conversion query (September 21, 2010 11:01PM) MachineGirl
I've been supplied with a number of files in NTSC, some of which are 23.98 fps interlaced and some are 29.97 fps interlaced.

Can anybody advise on the best way of converting these to PAL 25 fps using Compressor? Is there a particular workflow I should be adhering too? They all need to make up part of the same PAL timeline in FCP.

I've been using the workflow as detailed over at MacWorld (Send Video Abroad), but some clips, when encoded for DVD, look either jerky or interlaced or worse.

The workflow described in that article is correct. The real question is: do the converted PAL clips look good on your FCP timeline (when watched on a PAL tv hooked to your FCP system of course) ? If they look good in FCP your problem lies in the DVD conversion, not in the NTSC-PAL conversion.

Best wishes,

Ronny
