Final words before we jump...

Final words before we jump... (April 13, 2011 02:05AM) Butkus#51
We currently have a 2.5 hr project consolidated in one FCP timeline; the codec is Apple Pro Res. 90 percent of the clips are weighed down with either a plug-in effect, transition or some type of Motion action...the entire timeline went through Apple Color correction.

We are getting ready to 'flatten' the whole thing out to a single Apple Pro Res quicktime file....it will be the largest file we have ever output in a single project.

Any final words of advice before we hit the 'Go' button....to make sure that all outputs correctly and without any annoying "Out of Memory" or "Error" balloons???

Save your project using another name so you have a clean backup if anything goes wrong.

If you have any other sequences open, close them (to save RAM)

If you are going to export to the same codec as your sequence settings, make sure your timeline is completely rendered before exporting (to reduce export time and avoid out of memory messages)

For such a long project it is good practice to shut down FCP (or even the whole system), then start up freshly and do the export (shutting down flushes RAM and deletes temporary cache files).

Best wishes,

Ronny

To add to what Ronny suggested, if your timeline is not completely rendered, and this is what I always do at the end of a project, use the Render Manager to delete all the renders you have already done in the project. Many of those renders are probably try this and that renders, experimental and such. Then, and it will take a long time since your project is so much longer, render the entire project at one sitting. Make sure your Computer Sleep in the System Prefs/Energy Saver is set to Never and go for it.
