I have to lift, as text, quite a lot of commentary from a few video clips. Do any of you know of any software that will allow me to transcribe speech on a Mac without having to type it all in word by word.

The last time we tested this feature in PPpro it was a complete disaster. Please keep me updated if this finally works.

last time i used it was in CS5.02
It worked reasonably well, id say about 90-95% was done right.
i suppose the quality of the audio matters as well..
