capturing video in FCP 7

i'm trying to capture video into FCP7 and running 10.6.8 snow leopard . the macbook pro wont recognize the my camera via firewire. the macbook pro wont even see the firewire. anybody have any suggestions?

It would be helpful if you provided a few more details: What camera model? What tape format? Did you check the Firewire section of System Profiler to see if it shows the camera connected? Do you have the camera in VTR (play) mode?
