Freeze frame turns black in timeline

When playing a freeze frame in the timeline, the video goes black after a couple seconds. When I stop the video, the frame reappears (so I know that it actually exists). I'm not sure if this is a rendering issue, or format issue. In the top of the timeline, the render bar is blue...which means that it's rendered.

Any suggestions? (Additionally, when speeding up or slowing down the video, the same issue occurs.)

I'm editing FC Studio 7, Mac Version 10.6.8.
