Mini Display Port to HDMI (need video only not mirror iMac display)

I have the latest FCP Studio on my iMac. If I use a Mini Display Port to HDMI Adapter, can I set FCP to only display the Canvas on the extra HDMI monitor I hook up via the adaptor.(to monitor just video and audio)....I don't want to mirror what's on the iMac screen, I only want to see the video on the external screen with audio. I wasn't sure if there's a way to adjust FCP in this fashion........Thanks.

Yes, once you calibrate the monitor as your second display you then go into Final Cut > View > External Video > choose all frames. Then View>Video Playback>Digital Cinema Desktop Preview-Full Screen.

Once you hit play your video should be playing on your monitor only.
