Thunderbolt Duo question

Thunderbolt Duo question (May 18, 2012 02:19AM) Marco
Hi Ken, Hi all.

I just bought my first "4TB My Book Thunderbolt Duo from WD". Because I'm a nobody in regards to hardware/computers I have the following question.

What is the best machine to use this Thunderbolt in regards to FCP editing etc.

I have 2 Macs each with a Thunderbolt connection and the following configuration:

iMac - 27-inch
Processor: 3,4 Ghz Intel i7
Mem: 16GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048MB

MacPro: Led Cinema Display 2560x1440
Processor: 2x2.66 GHz - 6 Core Intel Xeon
Mem: 20GB - 1333 MHz DDR3
ATI Radeon HD 5870

Cheers
Marco

Hi Marco

Assuming your iMac is the 2011 model the drive should work well with that computer.

However there are no MacPro's with Thunderbolt, I expect you might be confusing a 'Mini Display Port' on the Macpro with a thunderbolt port.
They look and fit similar- but there is no Thunderbolt circuitry behind a Mini Display Port- easy mistake to make.

Hope that helps, let us know how you get on with your drives.

Hi Greame,

You are right about the Pro and the "Mini Display Port'" and I thought for 110% it was for a Thunder connection. (I'm disappointed)

The iMac is indeed mid 2011 and has 2 thunder ports in the back, so that's the one to use. Bad luck. However I'm now thinking to use the Apple LED Cinema Display (27" flat panel) of the Pro as a second screen with the iMac.

Question: Do I use a simple USB2 cable to connect this display with the iMac ?

Cheers
