Aliasing & Jaggies On Anamorphic DVDs (June 16, 2008 06:08AM) ghetto3jon
i spent weeks trying to figure out why my HDV to SD DVD looked bad (jaggies and aliasing on curved text and angles). i assumed it was my downconversion method (i've tried them all), but then i burned a matted 4:3 DVD instead of an anamorphic 16:9 DVD, it looked great! i assume the anamorphic DVD that looks terrible on my SD 4:3 TV would look fine on a 16:9 television...but could i be doing something wrong that results in an anamorphic DVD that doesn't hold up on a 4:3 SD TV?

(workflow: sony z1 > FCP5 as AIC > export using quicktime conversion as uncompressed 8-bit NTSC > compressor 90-minute best preset > DVD studio pro)
