dvd quality on the apple dvd player

dvd quality on the apple dvd player (June 16, 2008 06:54AM) dominicci
Hi all,
love the new set up.

I have been burning standard def DVDs which look fine on my DVD player/TV and on PC DVD players (damn them!) but when I play the DVDs on my MAC (Mac book Pro and Mac Pro/ACD) using the MACs inbuilt DVD player the picture quality is really poor. It's blurry and looks pixelated.

Is it something to do with the Mac book Pro and ACD being High Def quality, resulting in the scaling of the sd image to larger scale?

I do not want to have to build a standard version for normal use, and then a high def version just so I can show it on my mac.

Any ideas why this is?
Do I need to change settings?

Thanks for your help

Regards

Dominicci

Hi Dominicci,

Play your DVD, then press CMD+2 to view the image in its original size.

If this looks good it means your DVD is good. Playing anything larger than it really is always introduces scaling artifacts, especially when you play SD DVD on a high definition computer screen.

Best wishes,

Ronny

Hi Dominicci,

Ronny is right, view only at actual size.

BTW, My DVDs always look a lot better on TVs then on computers. DVDs are meant to be played back on TVs, playing them on a Mac is more a matter of convenience.
