Split Screen & other visual effects

I know FCP 5 has many features relating to special effects, but I can't locate an easy to understand tutorial that will guide me.

One I'd like to understand is the split screen effect, showing more than one video clip.

Another is how to enlarge a WMV video clip to 480x640.
