Timecode Generator?

I've searched the main pages and the forums but couldn't find anything.
I understand that you can use the Timecode Generator/Reader in the Effects menu for clips, BUT is there a way to overlay the timecode over the WHOLE FILM instead of just each individual clip?

Yes, nest your sequence and then apply the filter to the nest.

ah ha! learning something here everyday.
so if i understand what charley wrote about nesting correctly, after ive nested a couple of clips, i can still access the original clips by double clicking the nested sequence? just double checking that it isnt impossible to get back to yr orig. clips once nested.
