E-Sata vs Firewire 800

E-Sata vs Firewire 800 (June 25, 2008 01:19PM) Swami175
I just purchased a Lacie d2 quadra external hard drive for my MacBook Pro. Which would be the best way of hooking it up to the MacBook pro? E-Sata or Firewire 800?

Best way is relative.

What format are you working with?

FW 800 is easy, you would need an ESata card for your Expres 34 slot.

I'm working with DV- Cam.

For DV, Firewire 800 should do just fine. I use Firewire 800 and get four RT streams of DVCPRO HD.

I just got a 1TB WD MyBook Studio which I use Firewire 800 into a MacBook Pro. I have to pull down a lot of 1080/60i footage and the 800 connection is very good. For what I am doing I don't think E-SATA is going to make a huge difference. Firewire 800 is an amazing thing. either way you are going to get top performance and faster transfer times on larger file sizes.

Besides, the Macbook Pro has the 800 port right on there so I just plug it in and go... after that I never think about it.

But it amazing how small a Terabyte is nowadays...
