Re: on-board mic

on-board mic (July 02, 2008 07:02AM) David
When shooting a wedding reception with a Sony PD150, I use the cheap shotgun mic that came with the camera. There are many times that I'm far from the DJs speakers, and pointed away from them. This results in a huge volume difference as I turn this way and that - one client complaining that they couldn't hear the DJ at times, even tho I had great audio of my immediate surroundings. I've tried tying a wireless mic to the mixer, and that works great, but it's the same mic I use for interviews, so that's a hassle to un-hook, rehook, etc. I'm sure there are other workarounds, but what I'm looking for is an on-board omni mic that will work well when moving around different areas of the venue. I realize there will be some drop in the level, but using a shotgun just doesn't get the job done. All suggestions greatly appreaciated.

Thanks.
DD

Use two wireless mics. One for interviews; one for ambient audio.
