FCP suddenly refusing to load after working normally (July 02, 2008 10:26PM) rgmg
FCP fine one minute and then all of a sudden refuses to load, as if there is a shortcut icon but no program. Tried switching mac off and back on and also tried running from the Applications folder, from the dock icon and from a desktop shortcut. FCP splash screen comes up and it looks like it's loading normally. The FCP dock icon bounces up and down as normal, but it only goes this far - then the little arrow under the dock icon just fades away and FCP won't load. Am I missing something? Is there any way of restoring the launch process so the program loads normally again? I hope someone out there can answer this.

First open Disk Utility. Select your Boot drive and repair permissions on your Boot drive. Then try to launch FCP from the Dock.

If this does not help: trash your FCP preferences. If you have never trashed your FCP prefs before, here's how (FCP 5 and 6):

Go to your Home directory > Library > Preferences
Drag "com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist" to the trash. Do NOT empty the Trash.
Scroll down to the Final Cut Pro User Data folder
Drag "Final Cut Pro 6.0 Preferences" to the trash
Drag "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" to the trash
Drag "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the trash
Again, do NOT empty the Trash yet.

Now launch FCP from the Dock, if it launches and opens OK, empty your Trash. If it doesn't, get back here.

Best wishes,

Ronny
