Re-importing frames into FCP (July 08, 2008 09:28PM) jess
Hi there,
I'm exporting some frames from FCP in order to work on in Photoshop individually and reimport. I'm exporting PNG 10 frames per second in order to give it a juddery-animationy look. When re-importing into FCP what frame duration do I give the 'still length' (in user timeline preferences). Before when I exported 12 fps I reimported 2 frame duration to make up 24 fps (I'm working in PAL) - this time to accomodate the 10 fps should it be a still duration of 3 frames?
Sorry if this is a basic maths question! I'm from an animation background and we used to say 'shooting on 2's or shooting on 3's' and I'm trying to recreate that in FCP!!
Thanks a lot

Hi Jess,

If you are shooting on 3's you have 1 new still every 3 frames, making 8 different stills per 24 frames. So yes, I would set the stills duration to 3".

If your output is 24fps this will match exactly. If your output is 25fps you will need to add 1 extra frame on every 8th still to fit the 25fps timeline.

Best wishes,

Ronny
