Adding a drive to MacPro (July 11, 2008 04:43AM) chris
I don't want to order one from Apple, as they're $300 for the same thing you get for half the price, at least that's how it looks to me. Is there anything to be wary of in ordering an internal drive - such as: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, Serial ATA-300. Is this a good drive for a Mac Pro dual core 3GB? My Macintosh HD appears to be a 232.89 GB Intel ESB2 AHCI.....

thanks
Chris

Last week I got 3 750 Gig Barracudas for $109 each. Put them in the MacPro and now have a 2 TB RAID that just hums.

I have a pair of Hitachi 1Gb drives (Model: HDS721010KLA330) in my MacPro. Only been running for a couple of months but they've seen of lot of activity and been good so far.

You might think about getting a pair of drives at striping them as Raid 0. Will help speed up performance. But, you must do a back up because a crash of one of them means you've got to restore both.
