FCP6 workflow set up for Sony HVR-Z1U (July 26, 2008 10:42AM) Gunther Maier
Hi,

I read Keen's whitepaper and wanted to make sure that my easy set up I chose is corret if I want to stay native HD and 16:9.
Here is what I have:
Format: HD
Rate: 23.98fps
Use: DVCPRO HD 1080pA24

Steve,
I use a Sony HVR-M15U deck for capture and capture with "Live Capture Plus" as a .mov.
So if I use:
Format: HDV
Rate: 23.98fps
Use: ?

Thanks both for your answers

You're title says Sony Z1 which is HDV, but you're showing DVCPRO HD which is a different codec.

If you are running FCP 6.0.3, open a new project and drop a clip in. FCP will ask if you want your sequence to match the clip > Yes.

Hi Gunther,

The Sony Z1U is not a 24p camera. Why are you using that setting? The camera shoots at a frame rate of 29.97 in either 50i (PAL) or 601 (NTSC) It does however have a Cineframe mode that simulates quasi 24p footage...but not very good in my opinion. I think you'd be better off using Nattress 24p filters in your edit if you want to make the Z1U look 24p or more like film.

Scott is correct, the Z1-U is not a 24p cam. Don't forget Red Giant's 'Magic Bullet Looks', it really is a wonderful app for FCP or AE and contains a great many 'looks' for you which you can tweak to your hearts content. Plus, it is very easy to use and apply.
