Do you think it could be a problem with the firewire or firewire port? The computer has only been sporadically reading the external harddrive.

Again, everything worked fine last week.

Have you tried with another Firewire cable?

You mention that your Firewire hard drive was having problems too.

Could be hardware, but if you have a disk utility like Disk Warrior, I would suggest that you run it on your boot drive.

Speaking of boot drives, how full is your boot drive? How full is your Firewire media drive?

We do not have another Firewire cable, however we have a Firewire cable on the output of the hard drive and the computer only reads that drive intermittently.

We opened the back of the computer and hooked up the camera to the "internal Firewire port." It worked! As a result, the hard drive hooked up to a Firewire port on the back of the computer is now reading, too.

This is also very fragile, I'm sure. Any insight into what is going on would be appreciated.
