Superdrive Will NOT Burn DVD's

Hi Ken and Everyone,

Well, this just might be a bad drive but I thought I'd ask...

My Superdrive in my Macbook Pro will not even see a blank dvd. If I put a dvd into the drive that is burned, it will read it fine. But if I put in a blank dvd to burn, it rejects it. I have tried 4 different brands and types and no luck. Other then replacing the drive, any ideas?

What type of blanks are you using?

DVD- R?

I have tried both dvd-r and dvd+r and a few different brands of each. They just keep getting ejected. Actually, when I tried to burn a test in dvd studio pro, it began to burn but then was ejected.

All burned dvd's mount fine and I can watch dvd's as well as get files.

Larry,

Restart your computer and then try burning a data disc
by making a "Burn Folder".
Once you placed some data into your Burn Folder,
click Burn within the folder and then insert
your blank DVD-R.
If everything is working properly, soon you'll see
a Burn button becoming blue (before it was only dimmed).

Press Burn button and wait.

Try this before you send your Macbook Pro to service, it could be
some other problem.

Forgot to mention that my G5 was never able to recognise a blank DVD!
Of course, it works when prompted by iDVD or DVD SP, or in this case by
burning from Finder (Burn Folder).

I juts tried this a few times, with different discs, and no luck. Oh well.
