Re: Ripping from a DVD

Apologies if this has been raised already.

I am a newcomer to Final Cut Pro and so have quite a learning curve ahead of me. One project that I have been asked to do involves the following:
The person concerned has combined the footage he shot onto a DVD. I will be required to 'rip' the footage from the DVD, import to Final Cut Pro and edit accordingly. Could you advise the best way to do this? I notice from various forums that different applications have been mentioned - but I would be grateful for your recommendations.

funny - I was just going to write to ask this exact same question (how to capture from dvd)

I've done a forum search under "capture from dvd" and "mpeg stream clip" and several variations and all come up with nothing

can someone provide a link to the previous discussions referred to?

Yes but with MPEGStreamClip you can capture portions of the DVD using timecode, I couldn't figure out how to get DVDxDV to do that.

i would also recommend DVDxDV. best 25 bucks I spent this year...

I agree, DVD x DV does a better job than MPEGStreamClip.

I edited a short film on FCP and then made it into a DVD using DVD Studio Pro

the original film (all clips) was deleted from FCP but is still on DVD Studio Pro

inow I want to use part of this film in another project

s there a way to transfer the film from DVD Studio Pro back to FCP ?
