Re: AVI or MPEG

Pardon my ignorance but I am exporting a short documentary from FCP 6.0 and someone told me if I export it as an AVI file the quality would be better than an MPEG-4. I've googled the difference between the two and can't seem to get a straight answer. Can anyone tell me the difference between and AVI and an MPEG? Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

Someone told you wrong. The AVI file type is nothing more than a container or wrapper; the encapsulated file could be made from any number of codecs and quality levels ... some good, some not so good.
