mpeg streamclip export (August 12, 2008 03:26AM) Anonymous User
Hello,
Bringing DVD into FCP (btw, totally legit). Which export will give me the highest quality...QT, DV, AVI, MPEG 4,...or do I use convert? I've also read about DVDxDV and Mac the Ripper, will either of these give me better results?
Thanks.

Its really the codec that will give you the best quality.... but because you are using FCP Definitely do it as a QT file i usually just use the DVCpro NTSC codec but i'm sure others on the board have there prefences... i suggest doing a bunch of 10 sec test using different codecs to see which one gives you your desired look

Hi George,

AFAIK Mac the Ripper is only used to strip the protection from copyright-protected DVDs, so you won't need this as your DVD is totally legit.

Both Streamclip and DVDxDV will provide good quality conversions from your VOB files. DVDxDV might be the better of the two. Anyway, just export to the format you will be working in. If your editing format is DV then export as a QT DV movie.

Best wishes,

Ronny
