MPEG 4 and FCP 5

Hi ,

I am having some issues rendering an mepg4 file in FCP 5.0.4

What happens is I import video and file shows up in timeline but when I go to render it takes 8-10 hours! and then my computer ends up shutting itself off so I lose everything that has been rendered. Is there an issue with mpeg 4 and FCP? Is the file too big?

Can compressor convert mpg4 to mpg2?

It most cases, MPEG-4 is a delivery format - not really intended for editing. Try converting the MPEG-4 file to match your FCP Sequence settings with QT Pro or Compressor BEFORE you import it into your project.

What is the best format to edit in FCP? Generally i import from a dvcam deck with log and capture and am not sure what format is in my FCP sequence?
