2GB used to be a storage limit for older HDs and I'm wondering whether it still makes sense to limit capture to 2GB when using capture now (I film talks where capture now is what I want).

If your scratch drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended, then there would be no reason to engage this feature. Uncheck both Limit Capture/Export and Limit Capture Now.
