FCP 6 sloooow to export quicktime (August 20, 2008 09:17AM) mediamogul
Greetings, Im exporting some sequences that are at most 7 minutes long. I am doing File > Export > Quicktime Movie. Current Settings, and Make Movie Self Contained is not checked.

I am on a MacPro 4 core 2.66. 12 gb ram. The footage is on an external drive via FW800. I am saving to the same drive.

I am getting insanely long times to export like 4 hours for a 7 min clip. the footage is from a canon hv30. When i started the project awhile back the renders werent so long.

any thoughts or fixes would be most appreciated. cheers, dave

Remember that if you are exporting from the HDV format, time will be taken to 'reconform' your video. This is one reason that people move from HDV to ProRes 422, much faster at things like this.

That is a tremendous tutorial! Thanks Ken!

Ken,

Are you saying that exporting ProRes 422 will export quicker from FCP than HDV? Will this make a difference in compressor when exporting for DVD too?
