Hi,
for some reason I cannot figure out how to (FCP 6.04) get the total time of the movie in the timeline, made from individual clips and many sequences?

Move your playhead on the timeline to the very end. Look at the upper right corner of the Canvas window where you will see the 'duration' clock.
